How can I move my account from my current provider to PriorWeb?
PriorWeb can transfer your website without downtime or loss of mail. With this transfer, your domain name remains the same, as it is also transferred to PriorWeb.
Below is a checklist you can follow to transfer your website from another provider.
1. Check to see if your current data can be easily backed up
Check if your previous provider has any means to download the files of your website, eg. via FTP or by requesting a backup at their support department. We advise you to request this backup or download the files before your new account is activated. Also write down any other settings like email accounts, forwarders and mailing lists. You will need these settings to recreate them at PriorWeb. If necessary, ask help from the previous provider to get the settings.
2. Find out how to cancel your account at your previous provider
We advise you to read the terms and conditions of your previous provider to find out how to cancel your account. It\'s best to order your account at PriorWeb at least 2 weeks before cancelling your old account to prevent loss of domain name or data.
3. Order your account at PriorWeb
Via our orderwizard, you can place an order for a hosting package. After entering your domain name, select 'Transfer my domain name'. When you completed the order, an invoice will be generated and sent to you by post. You can also view the invoice via PriorBase, for which login details will be emailed to you as soon as your new order is completed. Your account will be activated within at most 24 hours after we received your payment. Make sure your payment reaches us in time before your account at your previous provider expires.
4. Transfer your data to PriorWeb
After your account has been activated at PriorWeb, you can start transferring your data. You will receive access via FTP or via Frontpage to upload your website to our servers. You can also use the Mailmanager to set up all your email addresses.
An email will be sent to you with instructions to accept the transfer request. We advise you to wait with the acceptance until after your website and settings have been transferred. You can preview your website via a temporary host name, in the form \'www.domainname.tld.servername.priorweb.be\'. Details of this host name are described in the activation email.
When everything is set up correctly, you can then accept the transfer. This should happen within 8 days after your account was activated to prevent it from expiring.
5. Cancel your account at your previous provider
If everything, including the domain name, has been transferred to PriorWeb, you can then cancel your account at your previous provider. Cancelations usually have to happen in written form.
Using this checklist, transferring your account from another provider should go smoothly and without downtimes, as both accounts remain active during the transfer of data and settings.
If you have any further questions or are having problems with one of these steps, do not hesitate to contact our support department.
