FAQ

Email
Mailing lists > How can I subscribe myself to a mailing list?

New members can subscribe themselves by sending an empty message to the subscribe address of the mailing list. The mail is formed by adding '-subscribe' in front of the @-symbel. For example: when subscribing to the mailing list newsletter@priorweb.be, you would send a message to newsletter-subscribe@priorweb.be.

If you would like to subscribe another email address to the list, but your mail client is not configured to send mail from that address, you can specify the address you wish to subscribe inside the subscribe address. You have to replace the @-symbol in the address you wish to subscribe with a =-sign and add this after the -subscribe part of the subscribe address. For example: to subscribe john@priorweb.be to the mailing list newsletter@priorweb.be, you should send an empty mail to newsletter-subscribe-john=priorweb.be@priorweb.be. If your mailing list requires approval for subscriptions, a mail will be sent to the subscribing address (eg. john@priorweb.be in the previous example). You will need to answer that message to approve your subscription. This approval can happen from any address.

The subscribing address will always be notified of a subscription, so it's impossible to subscribe someone unknowingly.

Please note: The 'Mark list private' option needs to be disabled before new members can subscribe themselves to the mailing list.
