Email
Mailing lists > What happens to non-existent email addresses of subscribers?

The mailing list software will automatically take care of non-existent email addresses. Emails sent to non-existent email addresses will bounce back to the mailing list.

Members will not just be deleted when their email address is non-existent or temporarily out of order. The mailing list software will first wait 12 days and then send a warning to the email address of the subscriber. In this email the software will provide an overview of all the messages the subscriber has missed since the email address was out of order. If this overview email does not bounce back again, the subscriber will remain subscribed to the list.

If the overview email bounces again, the mailing list software will wait another 12 days and repeat the same procedure. When, after 12 days, the overview email bounces for the third time, the email address of the subscriber will be removed from the mailing list.

This procedure will guarantee you that, even when one of your subscribers has merely a temporary problem with his email address, your subscriber list remains up-to-date. It will first take up to 24 days before a problematic email address is actually removed from the list.
