How do I install a phpBB forum?

Before you can install a phpBB forum, you need a MySQL database.

1. Go to http://www.phpbb.com/downloads.php.

2. Choose 'Zip' from the drop down menu in the blue square and then click the down arrow. Do not use the green square to download phpBB, as this is still beta software and it might contain bugs.

3. After downloading, open the zip archive and extract all files to a temporary location on your hard drive.

4. Upload all files from that directory into a directory on your web space where you would like to install the forum.

5. Open /install/install.php in your web browser (eg. http://yoursite/forum/install/install.php) and follow the instructions displayed on your screen. Note: when asked for a database server name, you need to enter 'mysqlhost' instead of the default 'localhost'.

Your forum has now been installed. Please note that new versions are released regularly. It is very important to stay up to date to prevent your account from being abused by crackers. You can find information on upgrading your installation here.
